The new multi-purpose stadium will replace the Metrodome, and is estimated to cost $975 million. In the making of the New People’s Stadium, HKS announced that it will hire 19% targeted businesses with 8% minority and 11% women-owned firms for the contract of the design. The amount estimated for the design is $34 million.
For the better development of the stadium, two executives will be appointed as consultants who will look after the involvement of women and minority firms in the project. The Metropolitan Council will loan the two executives.
The Minnesota Legislature and the Minneapolis City Council has approved the funding of this project in May 2012. The New People’s Stadium will open during the 2016 NFL season. The owner of Metrodome, Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) will operate this facility, too.
