The new home of China-Arab States Economic and Trade Forum, the new Ningxia International Conference Center will be located in Yinchuan. The new facility will be home to the sixth, five-day economics and trade forum, held annually since 2010.
Embodying the local Chinese culture in its design, the Ningxia International Conference Center also conveys a strong Islamic identity in its creation referring to the Ningxia province’s Hui population, a predominantly Muslim ethnic group within the region, and the nearby Arab nations.
Inspired by the ancient Chinese metaphors and strong Islamic artistic patterns, the architecture of Ningxia Conference Center harmoniously blends both the cultures. The facility has been designed as a series of interior spaces around a central outdoor courtyard, which is the nucleus of the centre, where people will meet, share knowledge and develop new ideas.
Influenced by the pure geometries of the Chinese and Muslim cultures, the conference centre is clad in a unifying and dynamic steel shell, whose curvilinear form is derived from stitching a square at the base with a circle at the top.
tvsdesign, in partnership with Arup structural engineering group, has created the screen structure, which is composed of an outer triangular grid surface overlaid on a hexagonal base grid to create a thin space frame consisting of more than 30,000 individual structural framing members. The project will be tvsdesign’s fifth convention and conference centre to be built in China.
Serving as a symbol of cooperation between China and its neighbouring Arab States, the Ningxia International Conference Center will open in 2015.
