Developed in partnership with the Rockefeller Group Development Corporation at the Green at Florham Park, the 325,000 square foot building has achieved the LEED certification for Commercial Interiors (CI) and Core & Shell (CS).
Opened in May 2012, the facility features many BASF-enabled construction solutions and is said to be one of New Jersey’s largest sustainable projects. BASF’s North American headquarters building has used 35 BASF-enabled construction solutions to achieve LEED (R) double Platinum certification.
The facility’s indoor water usage has been reduced by 40% using low-flow toilets, lavatory faucets, shower heads, and waterless urinals. There is also a provision for the rainwater harvesting system, which reduces the need for potable water. To support the rainwater harvesting system, more than 40% of the site is left open.
Ample scope has been provided for natural daylight to infiltrate into the building. About 75% of the office and meeting spaces are naturally illuminated and 90% have an outdoor view. The building has used recycled materials in its construction with more than 20% of the materials purchased for the project featuring recycled content. Approximately 75% of the construction waste was diverted from landfills and incineration facilities.
The base building has been designed to exceed the industry standard for energy performance, ASHRAE Standard 90.1 2004, by 24.5%.
