As part of the work at the home in Abingdon, the St John’s Trust wanted to provide more natural light for residents and visitors in the main entrance area, while at the same time offering protection from direct sunlight.
Faber Blinds provided two large rooflights and bespoke blinds for the Old Station House home. The large 2.7m x 6m horizontal FTS rooflight blinds included special screen fabric to stop the glare issues the home had previously experienced in the six-metre high atrium area.
The motorised FTS rooflight systems are suitable for use on projects where there are large skylights or atria areas that require solar shading. The system features two motors, one at each end of the blind, to ensure that the fabric is held under tension at all times. The controls allow the blind to be stopped at any precise position, along its length of travel.
There are several control options available with the standard Faber 1800 system, including manual control using a rod operated gearbox, providing a low cost option for smaller blind sizes and installations where the blinds are easily accessible. Motorised operation is available for high level, larger blinds or where there is a requirement to group the operation of the blinds together.
The Old Station House care home is situated on the site of the old railway station in the centre of Abingdon. It offers 43 flats arranged on three floors. Residents are supported in their healthcare needs by their own GP and other local health services. The home is arranged into six units. There is a large communal area in the centre of the home. The recent refurbishment programme also included plans for a new atrium.
