Urban Edge has supplied more than 900 doorsets for the scheme, which were designed to meet the stringent requirements of First Base. The new doorsets converge style with functionality and affordability. The order included crown cut American Red Oak veneer doors that provide internal fire protection.
Noted for high quality, the Urban Edge doors met the stringent requirements for both residential units and public areas. The doors claim to offer superior security, durability, longevity, fire resistance, and good aesthetics appeal.
The company used EnduraCor, a cost-effective engineered performance core, within the doorsets, which has rendered both stability and versatility to the doors. The doors offer severe duty rating, sound reduction of up to 30RwdB and a fire rating of up to 60 minutes.
The doors have been manufactured from man made materials, which include fire retardant facings and flaxboard. According to Urban Edge, the doors are almost 100 times more durable than the more traditional multi-layered chipboard.
The doors, during their lifetime, require low repair and maintenance, making them suitable for high capacity living areas. All the doorsets are FSC-certified, which ensures usage of timber from managed and sustainable sources and aid the developer to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes for the Highbury Gardens scheme.
Highbury Gardens is a mix of 119 dwellings and retail space, which have been built around a new landscaped courtyard. Boasting characteristics of both contemporary design and traditional architecture, the development offers a mix of one, two and three bedroom homes, which includes 18 social rented apartments, 39 shared ownership; 31 shared ownership apartments and 31 open market apartments. The design team for the scheme consisted of Porphyrios Associates, the Design Architects; and John Robertson Architects, the Executive Architects.
