The first-of-its-kind from Philips, the Philips Hue incorporates various new technicalities, which enables it to pick the colour temperature, create and save scenes based on photographs and make a sunrise wake-up call replacing the traditional alarm clock.

The lamp can display different tones of white light starting from warm to cool, as well as recreate any colour. Based on the research around the biological effects of light on the body, the Hue mobile app features LightRecipes and four pre-programmed lighting settings, which adjust the brightness and shade of the lamps to help users relax, read, concentrate or energise.

Designed to provide personalised light and limitless applications in future, the Hue will integrate other features like geolocation services, allowing it to sense when the user is close to home and automatically turn on the lights, or turn them off when the person leaves, to make the product more user-friendly.

The Philips Hue comes in a starter pack, which includes three lamps that screw into existing fittings and a bridge that plugs into a Wi-Fi router. The app can be then downloaded to mobile devices for free. Available only in Apple stores, the new Philips Hue is priced at £179 ($284.510) for a kit containing three lamps.
