The design brief required creation of a modern fresh desk lamp using an LED light source that has character and personality, with a timeless quality. Martin Revell specified HI-MACS after prototyping various materials for the crescent moon base, for its inherent durability, beauty and touch. HI-MACS also has some weight which was found to be suitable for the base of a lamp that has an angled arm with a touch control light and great finish.
HI-MACS further offer a choice of colours and styles. It is approximately 70% natural stone powder set in an acrylic resin matrix that forms some 25% of the material with the other 5% being natural pigments. The acrylic stone can be easily shaped using thermoforming, enabling completely new, organic design and architecture with a seamless, three-dimensional look.
Pandora is designed as a progressive desk light design that has individuality with a uniqueness that comes with the HI-MACS base. It is available in either Lucent Opal or Almond Pearl HI-MACS with white or black lamp head.
The Pandora lights will be exhibited for the first time at the Surface Design Show, at the Business Design Centre in Islington from Feb 5-7, 2013 at stand number 108-112.
