Designed by Reiach and Hall Architects for property development specialists Redevco, the regeneration project has transformed George House in Glasgow into high quality office space. Dorma, supplier of premium access solutions, installed an all-glass revolving door for the feature entrance, which also helped the project to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard for energy efficiency.
Delivering elegance, functionality and improving the building’s use of natural daylight, the revolving door from Dorma also granted smooth and reliable access. Dorma KTV Atrium Glass revolving door was chosen for this project.
Unlike sliding doors and swing doors, revolving doors act as a lobby to keep out noise, dirt and also achieve compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations – draughts. Acting as an effective environmental barrier between the internal and external environments, the Dorma KTV revolving door has limited warm air loss and cold air intake at the building, which helped to reduce its energy consumption and expense.
As the showcase of the refurbishment, the new entrance also made a positive impact in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The all-glass revolving door can harmonise with virtually any environment to add a stunning, contemporary finish to a building’s interior.
Completing the specification and ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Equality Act, Dorma also supplied its ED 100 low energy swing door operator and AD 4000 Panic Touchbar. Used to create an emergency exit and disabled access door, the use of the Dorma ED 100 has also helped in reducing unnecessary heat loss and contributing to the reduction of the building’s overall carbon footprint – a prerequisite in contemporary building products and systems.
The George House refurbishment included the complete revitalisation of the building’s internal space. It included strip out of 90,000 square feet interior, installation of new building services, raising of access floors, improving common areas, installing a new lift system and complete redecoration. Interserve Group served as the main contractor on the project.
George House building was originally built in 1979.
