For his first exhibitions of 2013, Rolf Sachs presented ‘chemie no. 6’ and ‘insepar-able 2nd edition sledge’ at the second edition of artgenève, a modern art exhibition in Switzerland.
Created after experimentations with laboratory glassware and fittings, the‘chemie no.6’ is an unconventional sculptural floor lamp. Mirrored and frosted finishes have been applied to the glassware to transform the laboratory staples and remove them from their everyday environment.
The chemicals and liquids that usually run through the glass forms are replaced by a visible flow of blue and red electrical cables that illuminate the individual vessels. In order to make the light more attractive, it is accessorised with a drinking glass, ceramic ash tray, glass flasks, candle and sugar cubes.
Two classic ‘Davoser’ ash hardwood sleds are fused together to create the ‘insepar-able 2nd edition sledge’, which is produced by the Swiss sled and luge-maker, Graf Schlitten in Sulgen, using the traditional wood bending technique.
Reflecting culture, local customs and diverse materials typical of the region, Rolf Sachs has created the ‘herzschuss’ chairs as part of the Neu/Vertraut project.
