Part of Umeå University, the Umeå Arts Campus has been presented as a modern regeneration of the urban harbour area. The campus consists of the Fine Arts School, the School of Architecture and the Art Museum, which are designed to provide a framework for the school’s creative environment along the Umeå River.

The School of Architecture building provides a bright and open study environment, separated by the split levels and glass walls of the teaching rooms. Featuring generously illuminated interiors with natural light, the building provides panoramic views of the river. With architectural vision, the School of Architecture building has been created to provide a dynamic, lively environment along the riverbank.

The Arts Campus, School of Architecture and Art Museum are all designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with the local architects, White Arkitekter.

Launched in 1959, the Civic Trust Award is given to finished architectural projects that contribute to the betterment of the community in which they have been built. The 2013 prize ceremony was held at Cardiff City Hall in Wales, UK.
