The St. Alexius Brothers Women & Children’s Hospital occupies a brand-new six storied building on the east side of the Barrington Road campus that already includes the St. Alexius Medical Center, the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital and two medical office buildings.

Built to provide latest medical facilities to the children of the area, the 210,000 square feet hospital includes 17 pediatric beds, eight pediatric intensive-care rooms, level III 16 beds intensive care unit for newborn babies and 38 rooms for mothers who have given birth or are about to.

The new hospital will also house the Center for Pediatric Brain on the first floor, where pediatric neurologists will provide services such as epilepsy treatment, concussion recovery, and neuro psychological and developmental evaluations.

The second floor includes the pediatric unit and a pediatric intensive care unit, with playrooms for different age groups and private rooms that include expansive windows, a seating area where kids and guests can eat, and a sofa bed.

A Level III neonatal intensive care unit is situated on the fourth floor. Mother-baby units and a nursery is situated on the fifth floor, while 14 labour, delivery and recover suites, along with operating rooms, are situated on the sixth floor.

The new facility will replace the childbirth and pediatric operations at St. Alexius as well as the high-risk pediatric and childbirth operations at Alexian Brothers.

Like its sister buildings, it will be part of the Alexian Brothers Health System which is owned by the nationwide Catholic hospital chain Ascension Health.

The new St. Alexius Brothers Women & Children’s hospital is scheduled to open on 6 April 2013.
