UK-based Wates Construction Limited has reached a construction milestone with the topping out ceremony on a new extension of the BBG Academy in Birkenshaw, Bradford, which is designed by Halliday Clark.
The £5 million ($7.46 million) project involves the development of an extension of the school, which will increase its student intake capacity from 400 to 750, in the age group of 11 to 16 years. The new extension is a 3,000 square metre facility. The building has a 160 ton steel frame.
The project also includes refurbishment of the existing 2,775 square metre school building and the construction of a new central heart courtyard. The new facility will offer state-of-the-art sports facilities, a resource centre and a dedicated space for adult learning provision.
The construction of the building commenced in October 2012. The full sized sports hall is expected to be opened alongside the new Academy building in September 2013.
