Taking inspiration from the Technology Innovation Centre network in the UK, the new 63,000-square foot research facility has been designed with open and transparent interiors. The facility is designed to provide extensive views to the neighbouring protected wetlands.
To create a well-illuminated and ventilated environment, there is provision for permanent natural light inside the facility with a large oculus skylight in the lobby.
Along with ample day lighting, other sustainable design features of the facility include on-site water retention, use of low-emitting materials to improve indoor air quality, energy recovery in the mechanical systems, and panel-level monitoring of power consumption.
CCAM is a new model for public-private partnership in research and development between universities and industry, which will promote faster and more cost-effective transition of laboratory discoveries to commercial applications.
