The centerpiece of the three-phase, three-year plan is a new hospital tower that will extend from the south side of Essentia Health-Fargo on the 32nd Avenue campus. The renovation will allow Essentia to take patient care to the next level in Fargo.
As part of the first phase of the project, Essentia will build a 105,000-square-foot hospital tower with four storeys and a basement. Design work will be finalised this spring, and the footings and foundation will go into the ground in summer.
The tower will include new high-tech suites for imaging, endoscopy, interventional radiology and heart catheterization procedures. Patient beds will initially increase by 28, with the capacity for total hospital beds to more than double in the future. The new tower is slated for completion in January 2015.
Essentia Health will also begin construction of 25,000 square foot support services building this spring that will serve as a regional supply distribution centre and provide office space for departments such as coding and business services.
Two new surface parking lots will be built on the 32nd Avenue campus, creating about 400 new spaces by this fall. Finally, Essentia’s South University Clinic is beginning a major renovation, which will allow several departments to expand. This will return the entire facility to clinic space and move support staff off-site.
The second phase, which will begin in January 2014, involves construction of a two-storey, 20,000-square foot facility on the 32nd Avenue campus that will offer specialty clinic space. The building is scheduled for completion in March 2015.
The third phase will begin in December 2014 with the expansion of the hospital’s current emergency department, operating rooms and imaging services. This project will expand the hospital’s footprint and allow the department to grow from 13 treatment rooms to 26. This work is expected to extend to early 2016.
The projects are the culmination of investments Essentia Health has made across the region over the last five years.
