Taking inspiration from the culture and myths of the area, the design of the home has incorporated stone buttresses, which appear to emerge from the landscape. Similar to a small Iron Age settlement, the curve of the building will create a protected ‘keep’ at the centre of the home.

Complementing the Tintagel Castle, which is situated opposite Castle Minor, the new design includes a moat and drawbridge. Situated off Atlantic Road, the site is a level plateau next to a quarry face. Accommodating the steepness of the hill, the tiered house has been embedded into its landscape, which provides a protective feeling to it. The design also includes numerous terraces to enjoy spectacular views of the coastline.

Drawing inspiration from King Arthur’s castle, the Castle Minor has combined the latest technology with an understanding of historic dwellings. It takes a sculptural form which relates to the quarry face and the surrounding landscape.

The sustainable features of Castle Minor includes green roof grown from local species of flora and the use of local materials.

Work is due to begin on the site in the latter part of 2013.
