Australian premier Colin Barnett made the shortlist announcement for the companies which will now progress to the Request for Proposal Stage for the Design, Build, Finance and Maintain (DBFM) contract. The three consortia are WESTADIUM (led by Brookfield Financial and John Laing), Confidem (led by Capella Capital) and WestAdium (led by Bouygues and Plenary Group).
The consortia will now work with Government on their detailed plans for the stadium and sports precinct to ensure they meet the State’s requirements. Detailed proposals with full cost will be submitted in November 2013. The stadium steering committee had been working closely with a range of user groups to work out the requirements of the public wanted. The driving philosophy behind the stadium is putting fans first.
Ertech Keller Joint Venture was chosen as the preferred contractor for the 18-month pre-construction site works program, which is expected to begin in June 2013. It will mitigate any ground conditions and environmental risks and pave the way for stadium construction to start in late 2014.
Works on site will include ground improvement for the stadium, bus hub and the pedestrian areas for the new train station, and groundwater and waste management works. The stadium is due to be open in time for the start of the 2018 football season.
