The refurbishment has added a new six-lane 50 metre warm-up swimming pool. Combined with the existing 10-lane 50 metre competition pool at Tollcross, a new venue has been created that is one of the biggest of its kind in Europe. The venue will serve as a training facility to train elite swimmers and host elite competitions as well as operate as a community sports facility.

As part of renovation, 1,000 permanent seats have been added, taking the total capacity to 2,000. A further 3,000 temporary seats will be in place during the games.

Additional work includes the creation of a new community facility to replace the fire-damaged Shettleston Burgh Halls; and the refurbishment of the existing Tollcross Leisure Centre.

The leisure and community facility, which will be used during the 2014 Commonwealth Games next summer, can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators.
