Located in the heart of Manhattan at 250 West 55th Street, the 40-storey tower features office space, a green roof, two podium levels, and two basement levels.

Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, the building has incorporated viscous damping system into the outrigger and belt truss at the crown of the building. This damping system reduces the building’s motion during wind storms, and enabled the steel tonnage to be reduced by 10%, which saves $5 million in costs.

Providing more usable space per floor, seven small viscous dampers have been integrated into the mechanical space at the top of the building. It preserves valuable space within the building that would have otherwise been occupied by a tuned-mass damper, thereby maximising rentable space for the landlord, Boston Properties.

The tower is slated for occupancy in early 2014.
