Located along the central coast of California, the project has delivered more than 800 new and renovated homes, community centre, maintenance facility, and other neighbourhood amenities.
Under the privatised family housing project, more than 500 older housing units have been demolished, more than 160 new homes have been constructed, and an additional 700 homes have been renovated at the base.
Completing a six-year initial development period that was launched in 2007, the Vandenberg AFB residential scheme features more than $6.5 million community amenities, which includes a 6,200 square feet community centre featuring a pool, fitness centre and multi-purpose rooms, as well as a 2,400 square feet maintenance facility.
Apart from that the development activities also includes numerous parks and athletic facilities, bus shelters, perimeter fencing and significant enhancements to infrastructure, landscaping and lighting throughout the housing areas.
The sustainable features of the housing scheme includes low voltage lighting, tankless hot water systems, Energy Star appliances, low-flow plumbing fixtures, high efficiency furnaces, and low VOC construction materials. Xeriscape landscaping techniques have also been used, including native plants and non-irrigated turf seed to ensure water conservation.
