Regenerating a commercial site at 250 City Road, between Angel and Old Street Stations, the proposed residential scheme would be designed by Foster + Partners. It will include two residential towers of 41 and 36 storeys, which will conclude the area’s planned cluster of high-rise buildings.
At the centre of the development, the scheme will feature a generous landscaped park. The buildings will be arranged to maximise sunlight to the new public spaces and apartments. The scheme will feature new pedestrian routes through the site, which will connect the project to its surroundings and local transport links. Apart from that it will also feature shops and cafes on the ground level.
With a triangular plot of land, the towers will be designed to block northerly winds and to minimise down draughts to create comfortable public spaces. By adopting a progressive environmental strategy, the scheme will incorporate a combined heat and power plant, which could potentially be connected to the local grid.
In addition to that it will also install photovoltaic panels to provide renewable energy to the scheme. Its green roofs will encourage wildlife, while rainwater will be harvested and used for irrigation.
