During Clerkenwell Design Week, which was held from 21-23 May, Knoll presented a lounge collection by London-based designers, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. The company also presented a collection of recently updated classics, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Florence Knoll and Marcel Breuer, which were first introduced at Salone del Mobile 2013 in honour of Knoll’s 75th anniversary.
The lounge collection by Edward Barber andJay Osgerby includes occasional tables and a stool, which offers a relaxed, contemporary attitude toward interior design. It includes different sized sofas, and two complementary ottomans.
Available in a range of upholstery fabrics and leathers, the lounge furniture is designed with stitched seams. It is softened by the curvature of cushions on each face. Each piece features distinctive cast aluminium feet that slide neatly between its upholstered elements. The feet can be specified in chrome and various lacquered colours.
A compact version of the armchair and a sofa featuring a lower back and reduced seat depth, are also available, which can be used in workplace or smaller apartment.
Occasional tables and a stool feature robust cast aluminium base, which supports both round tabletops and the round wooden seat of the stool. The geometric, elementary framework of the base is an interpretation of the familiar tripod structure and its tripod legs visually contained by two rings.
The height of Knoll’s classic Florence coffee tables has been modified from 42cm to 35cm to keep with the trend of lower sofas/couches. The table tops are available in a wide range of marbles and wood as well as glass.
Knoll has also exhibited the Wassily chair in natural canvas, which is designed with Marcel Breuer’s original specifications. The signature logo of Marcel Breuer is stamped into the base of the chairs.
Apart from that it has also introduced the MR side Chair in rattan, which has been designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
Now in its third year, Clerkenwell Design Week’s was founded in 2010. The event gathers Clerkenwell’s long-established design community together, celebrating the creative richness, social impact and its power for change within this unique part of London.
