The 13,147 square metre building features engineering workshops, laboratories, hair and beauty facilities and a multi-format learning resource centre and library. One part of the innovative four-storey building on the Channelside side in Barrow is clad in copper, and has been nick-named, ‘Copperbox.’

The project also included the refurbishment of the college’s former learning resource centre to transform it to house additional teaching areas, including a gym and sports hall with changing facilities. These are now linked, via a bridge, to the Copperbox. The exterior of the building features a copper rain-screen.

The building now features a sports hall with six badminton courts, basketball, netball, volleyball, and five-a-side pitches.

The Furness College will formally open on 15 June 2013.
