The restoration project of the golf course at Orchard Lake Country Club features a classic design which has been redesigned in a contemporary context by Keith Foster. The golf course was built in 1926 and was designed by Harry S. Colt and Charles H. Alison of Colt & Alison. The course was complete with their unique strategic design as well as large deep bunkering.

Renovation specialist Keith Foster was engaged to restore the strategic elements of the course and create a modern version of Colt & Alison’s vision. He created a classically designed layout complete with state-of-the-art bent grass greens and bunker construction.

The greens at the golf course have been planted with a new breed of bent grass, Pure Distinction, which is the world’s first. Pure Distinction grass has been technologically bred to flourish in the hot, humid summers of Southeastern Michigan and is also claimed to be resistant to most diseases that affect bent grasses.

Foster also created large sand-faced bunkers originally conceived by Colt & Alison. Latest technologies have been used in bunker construction, which ensures effective sand distribution and drainage throughout the playing season. Large sections of the course, which were not in play, were also converted from maintenance heavy blue grass to low maintenance natural areas to create an eco-friendly and sustainable golf course.
