Tom Dixon’s Y Chair is now available to buy online.
The distinctive stacking chair, whose back resembles the letter Y, is the result of Dixon’s recent forays into the hotel, restaurant and bar design sectors, which has seen the furniture and lighting designer create interiors for the restaurant for the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the Electric Restaurant in Paris.
Working on these projects, Dixon and his design team at Dixon’s Design Research Studio became aware of the need for stylish, durable and lightweight chairs that can be stacked for ease of storage and transpiration.
Daxon says: ‘Our recent adventures in hotel, restaurants, bar and office design got us looking for a chair to withstand heavy use, constant knocks and the daily abuse of the professional world. But we also wanted a recognisable silhouette, an ergonomic shape and a modern attitude.
‘Not too much to ask we thought. But after much fruitless searching we decided it was time to make our own.’
The Y chair was launched at last year’s London Design Festival, but has not been available to buy online until now.
made of glass-reinforced nylon, the chair is comes in black or white with a sled base. Other bases and upholstery options are available.
