If only we had known sooner, this may have made it into our World’s Best Public Toilets Awards for 2016. ‘Piss in peace’ says Urintrottoir, the creators of this new and wondrous public urinal. A slice of green is what this decorative planter gives passers-by but it also doubles up as a urinal.

What’s more, the urinal composts urine. The large herb and flower planters each contain straw and sawdust in the top bin, which works to break down the urine and ultimately acts as an ‘organic’ fertiliser for the plants.

Larger versions are said to absorb up to 600 people’s urine before needing to be changed.
The Urintrottoir has so far been distributed in Paris; the first two are being trialled near the Gare de Lyon station and is expected to expand through the city and other major areas of France.

This may pass for the world’s most discreet, economical and prettiest urinal. After all, you may not even know you’re passing one until you see someone doing their business. (Far more pleasant than watching people urinate on the streets though.)
