World-renowned architect, Santiago Calatrava has crafted a magnificent transportation hub for London’s future skyline. The structure, dubbed Peninsula Place, is one of the largest architectural projects the city will see.
The project, which includes a new tube and bus station, a hotel, theatre, cinema, footbridge and various shopping outlets situated alongside it, is expected to cost $1.25 billion.

The structure will be built on a 1.4 million-square-foot foundation located on the Greenwich Peninsula, beside the O2, which extends into the River Thames with three towers and curvaceous sides.
Calatrava said in a statement, ‘It is an honour to be designing such a piece of the fabric of London, a city I love…In designing this scheme, I have been inspired by London’s rich architectural heritage and the very special geography of the peninsula.’

The Spanish-born architect is also known for his work on the World Trade Centre Transportation Hub and Lisbon’s Oriente Station (Gare do Oriente).
‘Now that he [Calatrava] has practiced around the world, he’s ready to design in London. New York and Lisbon and Bilbao—they were rehearsals for the important piece of work he’s about to do for us,’ says London mayor, Sadiq Khan.
We’re still awaiting dates on when the complex is expected to be completed, but we will be sure to keep you updated.
