Who: After completing an MA in furniture design at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University, Alys Walton moved to Chichester to join the design team at Morgan Furniture, led by design director Katerina McMahon. Walton is now design manager, responsible for developing Morgan’s existing range and designing bespoke products.
Why: Walton’s passion for furniture design often leads her to seek inspiration from a wide range of cultural and historical modes. She is as comfortable designing versatile pieces that appeal to a wide market as she is working with private clients, architects and interior designers to create bespoke products.
What: Walton and McMahon’s shared enthusiasm for Fifties’ vintage furniture inspired the Miami range, available as a single-seater chair or a two-seater sofa and in a wide range of fabrics and finishes. Originally designed as a bespoke piece for a private client, Walton’s elegant Seville table has since been developed as part of the standard Morgan range and is available both as coffee and bar tables. The Seville table is also available with a pattern of silver nickel marquetry.
