Intending to turn the place into a ‘green’ venue, the team has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Environmental Protection Agency and offered a potential blueprint for future football stadium.
The construction of the stadium has made use of 40,000 tons of recycled steel and, recycled plastic and scrap iron is used for seating. This is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.68 million metric tons during construction and the first year of operation.
The new $1.6 billion stadium, which replaces the Giants Stadium in the parking lot of the current structure at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, is supposed to be 30% more energy-efficient than the old one.
The new stadium construction is progressing months ahead of schedule and already has seats installed on the top two tiers.
The new stadium will be a 50/50 partnership between both National Football League (NFL) teams. The stadium will be administered by the New Meadowlands Stadium Company, LLC.
