As a result of this shutdown, the company moves its 30 employees to its Spring Lake plant. Another 60 employees in Texas will receive severance within six to nine months, as parts are shifted to Izzy plants in Spring Lake and Alabama. Thirty more employees would relocate when the Belton plant is closed. The local plant currently employs 110 people.
Before two years, Izzy told officials of Texas that the company is expecting to expand the Belton plant by 2010 to accommodate anticipated growth from the Jami acquisition
But the company, owned by JSJ Corporation., realized that all of its plants had excess capacity after a tough fourth quarter. The recession in the economy came on the heels of its acquisition of Jami Inc., in Kansas City.
Chuck Saylor, chief executive officer said that his visit down there was to explain to all the employees, first of all, they hadn’t done anything wrong.
Saylor said the advance notice of the shutdown is important to the company that prides itself on its relationship with employees.
