Under this project, TXU replaced the existing 175 watts metal halide light fixtures with a state-of-the-art 78 watts LED (light-emitting diode) low bay parking garage fixtures from Lighting Science. It is the first garage project of its kind in north Texas and among a handful of similar projects in the state.
Lighting Science has retrofitted the parking garage at TXU Energy’s headquarters, with 53 pyramid-shaped low bay parking garage fixtures. The high performance LED fixtures will help reduce TXU’s energy consumption by 54,700 kilowatt hours a year, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by nearly 880 trees in 10 years.
“When you consider parking garage lights are on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, energy costs can amount to a significant overhead cost,” says Govi Rao, chairman and chief executive officer of Lighting Science.
Lighting Science’s pyramid-shaped garage fixtures are made up of 108 LED light sources, arranged so that if one light source fails, the other LED light sources will continue to illuminate a wide area. These units provide cool white light with excellent color rendering, substantially improving night vision and providing increased security for TXU Energy employees.
