The leading global provider of office furniture and services, Herman Miller has been recognized for excellence in design innovation, together with the advancement of recycling throughout the design and manufacturing process.
The company aims to improve recyclability and reduce waste in the design and manufacture of its products, and identifies the value of recycling over cost, says ISRI chairman George Adams.
The company was selected from several notable finalists, including Toyota and Walmart. Past award winners include Hewlett Packard and the US Environmental Protection Agency.
The ISRI is the private, non-profit trade association working toward the cause of the recycling industry, based in Washington, DC.
ISRI established the Design for Recycling award to honor a program, company or individual whose product or program design has incorporated a reduction in the number of different recyclable materials, a reduction of hazardous constituents, an increased yield of the product’s recyclables, an improvement in the safety of recycling or a design that allows for easy disassembly for recycling.
