The All Saints Church stands as a prominent local landmark and place of interest for fans of Carroll’s work from all over the world. The church is best known for its stained glass window, which was created in 1935 through public subscription to commemorate the centenary of the author’s birth, and has a memorial window dedicated to Carroll featuring characters from ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
Lewis Carroll Visitor Centre is estimated to cost GBP500,000 ($819,196 approx.) and is financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The center features a 55 square meter extension, which will showcase a display area, meeting room, toilet, and a kitchen, and the designers will also remodel a part of the church’s interior.
Themes for the displays will include ‘Daresbury in the life and times of Lewis Carroll’, ‘An introduction to Carroll’s key works’, ‘The Lewis Carroll window’ and ‘Lewis Carroll logic puzzles’. The new center will be accompanied by a series of educational activities to enable everyone to learn more about Carroll and his achievements, and also see the development of a walking trail in the village, currently under development in partnership with the learning team from nearby Norton Priory.
