The baggage claim area, located next to the car rental section, boasts two baggage carrousels that are contained inside. This feature results in increased security as luggage never goes back outside once it is off the plane and delivered to baggage claim.
The airport has also included additional security equipment designed to detect traces of explosives in luggage and make bag searching and other security work flow smoothly.
The new guest services center will allow passengers to conduct business at the airport, such as making photocopies, faxing and making arrangements for ground transportation.
Walter Dalton, lieutenant governor of North Carolina, said the citizens of Western North Carolina can be proud of the airport upgrades.
Over 300 members, including chamber members from Asheville and Henderson, Haywood and Madison counties, attended the Four Chamber After Hours business reception.
