Performance is also a key issue for EADS Astrium as any floorcovering has to withstand heavy usage. In addition, working groups or departments can be moved fairly frequently, with the result that it is often necessary to reconfigure office space overnight. For this reason adaptable flooring, which can be re-laid easily, quickly and effectively, without showing joints or marks, is essential.
InterfaceFLOR’s Shadowland in colourway Suburb was selected for the open plan office spaces and some 2,976m² of carpet tiles were installed. Shadowland is a random design tile with a hardwearing, tufted, structured, tip sheared pile made from recycled solution-dyed nylon. It is installed non-directionally, giving faster installation, minimum waste and maximum flexibility for a longer lifecycle.
The patchwork quality of Shadowland reflects an aerial view of a British landscape with its random patchwork of fields, meadows and woodland. Contrasting with this, 111m² of InterfaceFLOR’s Syncopation in colourways Ragtime and Tempo were laid to define the meeting room areas. The colour, finish and ashlar installation of the tufted, structured cut-and-loop pile tiles give an exciting and surprising textural effect.
Both products used incorporate InterfaceFLOR’s Cool Carpet®, which is offered as standard with Shadowland. With this scheme, any emissions that are generated throughout the products’ lifecycle are offset automatically, making them climate-neutral floorcoverings.
James Sanderson, UK projects engineer, EADS Astrium, commented: “Working with InterfaceFLOR has been brilliant. This is down to the high level of communication between us, the timing of deliveries to site and, of course, the performance of the tiles themselves.”
