With the emphasis on creating a sustainable building as well as a first class headquarters for the Football Association of Ireland, InterfaceFLOR’s Equilibrium and Palette 2000 carpet tile ranges were ideal for the Association’s new offices in Abbotstown, on the outskirts of Dublin.

In total, InterfaceFLOR supplied some 2500m² of its flooring, under a contract specified by Mahoney Architecture. This is a practice with whom InterfaceFLOR has a successful track record, due to both companies’ empathetic environmental credentials and their approach to sustainable building design and fit-out.

The Equilibrium colourway specified was Mobility – highly appropriate for the headquarters of a football association – a soft grey shade. Equilibrium is a tufted patterned, structured, tip-sheared pile carpet tile with a Graphlex® backing and pile material made from 100% Aquafil Alto, Chroma solution-dyed nylon.

Designed to find a niche between broadloom and tile, Equilibrium is highly textured for a chunky handcrafted look. Its soft, full construction and textured surface gives the style, depth and warmth of broadloom without sacrificing the benefits of a modular floorcovering. Available in 24 colourways, it can be installed either in ashlar, monolithic, or with a quarter-turn.

The FAI also selected four different colourways from InterfaceFLOR’s Palette 2000 range to highlight each corner of the single-storey building.

“Everybody’s very pleased with the carpet tiles we selected ,” says Michael O’Doherty, the FAI’s Facilities Development Manager. “They complement other areas where we have had natural walnut timber paneling installed. They also work well with the raised flooring, making access to the cables in the cavity below much easier.
