How were you commissioned?:
Adobe wants its offices to attract, excite and retain the best talent and as part of this ambition they commissioned office design and build company K2 Space to enhance the reception of its central London office.
What was the brief from the client and how much were they involved?:
Adobe’s central London office in Fitzroy Street is in the heart of advertising land just north of Oxford Street. Its reception and client facing areas weren’t up to standard and K2 Space was appointed to collaborate with Adobe colleagues in London and their San Jose headquarters in the US to deliver a new design and fit out for this important space.
How did the brief affect the materials and design choices?:
Adobe was looking to create a much more domestic feel through this fit out. This was achieved through appropriate furniture choices and the addition of colourful lighting. Also important was the existing interior, which dictated materials and design choices, such as the carpet, which complemented the concrete floor and pillars.
How did your previous experience help you with this project?:
Previous projects including one for Beats in Clerkenwell helped us to understand how to achieve the right interiors for Adobe who were also looking to exploit the industrial finishes to their office.
Can you explain the layout of the project:
The layout of the project includes the reception and meeting rooms on street level and the staircase that leads down to the open plan office on the lower ground floor at Fitzroy Street.
What problems or challenges did you face?:
Adobe chose to have a bespoke wooden reception desk. It is always a challenge to ensure that the sketches, 3D renders and any samples, match with the finished result.
What do you feel were the most unusual design elements of the project?:
The colourful lights in the reception are certainly unusual. "The lighting in particular has transformed the space into something we didn’t think was possible to achieve." said Mike Walley, EMEA site operations manager for Adobe.
How do you think this project is pushing design forward? What makes it special?:
The fit out is finished off by some stylish personal touches. Meeting room manifestations comprise a series of square graphics picking out Adobe products such as ‘Ae’ for After Effects and ‘Ps’ for Photoshop. Adobe also has coined the concept of ‘adobehabitat’. This stems from the theory that different animals have different habitats and the same applies to its employees. Adobe want to create a choice of comfortable workplaces in each of their offices.
