How were you commissioned?:
Recommended because of previous work.
What was the brief from the client and how much were they involved?:
The brief was to create a flexible work / retail / showroom space that would reflect the brands identity, allow them to showcase their handbag collection and provide staff with a comfortable work environment.
How did the brief affect the materials and design choices?:
With a palette of concrete, oak and powder coated metal, elements of the old structure have been reworked into the new design and sit comfortably beside the clean lines of the timber slatted walls and block coloured stairs.
How did your previous experience help you with this project?:
We have vast experience in retail design and so understood how the space had to work commercially as well as a work environment.
Can you explain the layout of the project:
The site was an existing Victorian warehouse in the heart of Shoreditch. Instead of relying on the warehouse industrial aesthetic we took our inspiration from the forms of modernist design.
What problems or challenges did you face?:
Once of the main challenges was creating storage within the design to house the brand’s vast sample collection as well as the day to day items needed in a modern office. The solution was to hide these items in specially designed cupboards within the work zone and under mezzanine storage containers that can double up as display fixtures.
What do you feel were the most unusual design elements of the project?:
To create continuity within the concept we designed a suite of display fixtures and grids. As well as hanging from the ceiling, these fixtures are mobile and can be used to break up the space. All the bespoke furniture has been designed to zone areas and create boundaries between the work, retail and leisure spaces.
