What was the brief from the client and how much were they involved?:
The client wanted a gymnasium that can be use for the French championship of Handball, with two playgrounds on the same area.
How did the brief affect the materials and design choices?:
To get the large surface of the playground, 2200 sq m without any structure column we needed to use a metallic structure and concrete wall to recept the force of the metallic structure.
How did your previous experience help you with this project?:
At the office, we allways use different types of concrete, and we have a great experience of layout, so this experience was an asset to design this project.
Can you explain the layout of the project:
We had a large playground area in the center of a bigger space. All around the sport area, we got all the program, the cloakroom, reception space, stock, … The project got only one side oriented on the sports center and the complexe. We use natural lighing on the roof to got the athmosphere more natural.
What problems or challenges did you face?:
The biggest problem was we faced was to create a large playground that can host two Handball area.
What do you feel were the most unusual design elements of the project?:
We used concrete everywere, it’s really pure.
How do you think this project is pushing design forward? What makes it special?:
It was a special project, with a large degree of graphism on all the construction.
