The third design week boosted the number of visitors indicating its popularity in the world of design. Roughly 19,000 design thirsty people were drawn to over 80 events at over 50 locations.

The program offered celebrations and talks, encounters with design stars and tomorrow’s designers. Its broad and coherent conception also resulted in a wide international media response.

Vienna Design Week’s new formats Debut, Carte Blanche, and Laboratory have been a great success. These will remain inherent parts of future festival program. The already established Passionswege again managed to enable a broader public to discover design off the beaten track, and put a new complexion especially on Vienna’s Stuwerviertel district.

Program partners and sponsors such as departure wirtschaft, kunst und kultur gmbh, Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Vienna Tourist Board, helped to make the festival successful.

Among the highlights were diverse program items such as Danklhampel’s design audiences in sheltered housings, the Tape Installation, and design star Michael Young’s presentation of his products. The new Aromapot pot set by dottings is already considered as a best-selling product for the Austrian long-standing traditional manufacturer RIESS Kelomat.

For the time being and throughout the world, Jasper Morrison’s watch for Rado is only available at Rado Store on Kärntner Straße in Vienna. There were special programs for children at MAK, as well as three workshops, organized by design°mobil at ZOOM Children’s Museum, with specific support by Erste Bank.

Numerous presentations are still open after the festival’s ending. Love Design at Klaus Engelhorn Depot can be seen until October 23rd, Reset at Stamm’s new concept store until November 3, 2009 and Design without a Designer can be seen at Wagner:Werk Museum Postsparkasse until November 14, 2009.

The Real World Laboratory – Central European design is still displayed at Freiraum/quartier21 international until November 21, 2009. Another design installation, Urban Gardening by the Freitag Brothers (CH), at Walking-Chair Gallery is shown until December 31, 2009. The installation Living in Crisis at Hofmobiliendepot • Imperial Furniture Collection Vienna as well as the exhibition City Alphabet at Wien Museum can be visited until January 10, 2010.

The fourth edition of Vienna Design Week will be conducted from October 1-10, 2010.
