Standing on a precipice admiring some of the world’s greatest views can be a life-affirming experience – but personally I prefer to do it from the safely of a lookout post – a structure that has been designed to provide the best view possible without requiring me to risk life and limb.

Such structures – and the breathtaking views they provide – are the subject of a new book called Lookout: Architecture with a View.

Published by the S AM and Christoph Merian Verlag, the book is filled with beautiful imagery of viewing towers, platforms and other small-scale buildings whose sole purpose is to facilitate such an unobstructed view from above.
