Aedas was appointed to design the new HQ of ADIC following an invited international competition. The 25-storey twin office is designed to accommodate between 1,000 and 1,100 employees. Aedas has adopted a design concept that is both culturally and environmentally appropriate and complies with the aspirations of the recently published 2030 Abu Dhabi Development Plan.

The twin towers, separated by a lake and palm reserve, are outfitted with a crystalline honeycomb shell that is designed to protect the structure from direct sun. The pattern has been inspired by a mathematically pre-rationalised form derived from Islamic designs. It acts as a dynamic ‘Mashrabiya’ that opens and closes in accordance with the sun’s path. Mashrabiya is the Arabic term given to a type of projecting oriel window enclosed with carved wood latticework located on the second storey of a building or higher, often lined with stained glass.

Both the towers will feature a double-height space at the top of the tower featuring a southerly sloping roof installed with photovoltaic systems. The building also features sky gardens to offer visual appeal and amenity space for the workers while working to reduce solar heat gain.

The ADIS HQ towers are expected to be completed by 2012.
