CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels for the AdvancED office project spanning 60,000 square feet was supplied by US-based precast concrete manufacturers Altus Group. The $10.5 million office building has been designed to achieve LEED-Gold status. The incorporation of 15,100 square feet of innovative panels contributed to energy and cost savings without compromising aesthetics.

CarbonCast is an innovative technology that uses C-GRID epoxy-coated carbon fibre composite grid for reinforcing and shear transfer. CarbonCast precast enclosure systems and double tees are considered as lighter, stronger and more durable and than other building systems. It provides continuous edge-to-edge insulation in a fully composite panel. It is also up to 50% lighter than conventional precast with virtually unlimited aesthetics.

Each exterior precast panel comprises inner and outer concrete wythes connected by C-GRID epoxy-coated fibre grid for shear transfer. The relatively low conductivity of C-GRID prevents thermal bridging and enables edge-to-edge, continuous insulation (c.i.) for a thermally efficient building envelope. The wall panels incorporated 4-inch of EPS insulation for an R-12 value to meet ASHRAE-90.1 requirements for a mass wall with continuous insulation.

The façade incorporates both a retarded and sandblasted finish. For dramatic entryways, polished granite veneer was cast into the wall panel and attached with stainless steel pins. Casting the granite into the wall at the plant sped the schedule and reduced the number of workers on site.

The CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels also incorporate recycled materials and are strategically positioned towards the sun to achieve extraordinary levels of energy efficiency.

The design firm for the project was Georgia-abed Warren Epstein & Associates Architects, and the general contractor was R. J. Griffin.
