Phase Two of the Fairbanks International Airport Terminal Area Development Project saw the completion of the new terminal building.

Phase Two construction included curbside improvements, an expanded ticket lobby, two regional airline boarding gates on level one, three new concourse boarding gates, additional jet bridges, and relocation of airport administration offices. The regional, domestic and international air carriers are now located within one terminal building.

“This opening ties the terminal together by uniting regional, domestic, and international airlines together in one building for maximum efficiency,” says Christine Klein, DOT&PF’s deputy commissioner of aviation.

While the new terminal is operational and open to the traveling public, travelers are advised that ongoing construction, such as interior finish work and airport tenant transitions, will continue for some more time.

Phase Three construction, including demolition of vacated portions of the old terminal and landside and airside paving, will begin immediately.

Completion of Phase Three, which is the final phase of the Fairbanks International Airport Terminal Area Development Project, is scheduled for late 2009.
