Who:
Designer Ian Haigh founded Central Design Studio after 12 years working for some of London’s most renowned interior designers, including David Collins, United Designers and Martin Brudnizki. He now leads a team of 10 designers at the London-based studio.

Why:
Making a name for itself creating some of London’s most exciting and original restaurant interiors, Central Design Studio brings a versatile and adaptable approach to design in which the client comes first. Haigh and his team are equally at home designing fun and funky interiors for Jamie Oliver’s restaurants as they are creating modern-classic looks for restaurants such as Galvin at Windows.

1. For the Winchester branch of Jamie Oliver’s Union Jacks restaurants – Central Design Studio’s second for the chain – walls of exposed brickwork and vintage-style leather banquettes create what Haigh describes as a ‘pimped’ version of the traditional English tea room.

2. Central Design Studio combined images of retro Americana – including neon signs and booth seating – with a raw, unfinished look for Chooks, a new restaurant in north London specialising in chicken dishes.

3. Showing it can do ‘understated and elegant’ as well as ‘modern and colourful’, Central Design Studio referenced Thirties’ photography in its classic-looking redesign of the bar at London restaurant Galvin at Windows.
