The Architecture Pavilion was designed by British design practice Coombs Jones: Architects + Makers, after they won a design competition run by Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW) and Design Circle.
The winning proposition was dubbed as ‘A Welsh Landscape.’ The designer translated the key elements of the Welsh landscape into architectural form to design the new pavilion. The pavilion is made of timber, which is surrounded by a grid of trees, which symbolises the Wales countryside.
The Pavilion will be showcased in close proximity to Y Lle Celf, the visual arts centre on Y Maes. After National Eisteddfod, RSAW plans to tour the project throughout Wales, which will create awareness about the design. The Pavilion symbolises the role that good architecture play in improving the world and lives. Construction of the pavilion was undertaken by Eco-Build Wales.
The National Eisteddfod is a celebration of Wales, its culture and its language. It aims to promote the Welsh language and culture, influencing an area culturally, linguistically, at community level and economically, building and developing a sense of local and national wellbeing and citizenship amongst the people of Wales and its supporters.
