The overhaul forms part of the second phase of a project involving renovation of the library. Work will include expansion of the public area of the library while developing additional space for meetings, study areas and technology.
The renovations will increase public space and create more room for meetings, study areas and technology. The changes will also include upgrades to the restrooms and the HVAC system to make the library more energy efficient and comfortable. The exterior portion of the building will remain unaltered.
The second phase will be financed through a collaboration between the New Castle County, the state of Delaware, and the Friends of the Bear Library. The refurbished library is slated to reopen by the end of 2012. Phase I of the project was completed in January 2011.
