Located in downtown Belleville, the library was built in 1916, and since then, received a $1 million facelift in 1998.

Providing a new look to the library, the interior renovation work will include a new main entrance and carpet, and more colourful, durable paint for the walls. In order to make the entire floor visible to the library employees, the circulation desk on the first floor will be moved from the entrance to the centre.

The second floor will feature a computer lab in a meeting room. The computers are currently located in the middle of the room, which is neither found to be a suitable space for classes nor for installing more computers.

Retaining the historic marble staircase, the renovation will upgrade the outgrown configuration as well as the interior and exterior of the building.

The renovation work is expected to begin in the later part of winter 2012 post approval from the council.
