A new structure named Piloti, designed by Marc Fornes and TheVeryMany, and commissioned by The City of Bellevue, Washington, has been erected as an entrance to Bellevue’s Downtown Park.
This rotunda, which functions as a gathering space, stands at 7.2m tall and consists of 6,665 unique aluminium parts connected by 180,900 rivets.
The structure features an ultra-thin, self-supported design that utilises a lightweight aluminium surface, forming a complex, umbrella-like canopy. Each umbrella is supported by a slender column, with capitals that twist and branch outward.
The surface includes tiny openings that were initially intended for assembly, allowing natural light to create dappled shadow patterns.
