A new 158,000 square feet, four-storey patient care addition has been constructed adjacent to the existing hospital facing Wealthy Street. The addition is designed to house 132 private patient rooms along with eight new state-of-the-art operating rooms. Other features of the new facility include a 36-bed post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU), which is one of the largest in the country; six nursing units; a rehabilitation room with a wall of windows overlooking the picturesque Fisk Lake neighbourhood; and a peaceful healing garden.

The existing operating rooms are renovated into large surgical suites, featuring advanced technology, equipment and communication systems. The renovation also includes: 152 private patient rooms; renovated emergency department; renovation of nursing stations to allow for better patient interaction and monitoring; remodelled public and service areas, including the hospital’s east lobby and Professional Office Building east lobby; revitalised public meeting spaces and new elevators; a complete overhaul of infrastructure systems including the roof, electrical, heating and sprinkler systems; improved surface-level parking entrance for patients; and a free parking ramp for visitors.

All the 284 rooms are private and are equipped with electronic lifts, pull-out beds for visitors, flat screen televisions and wireless Internet.

Blodgett Hospital took care to preserve the hospital’s tree-lined landscape, winding driveway and neighbourhood feel of the Wealthy Street facility.
