The recently commenced upgrade scheme will add a third new operating theatre to the hospital and will extend the main hospital reception. The existing pharmacy and new consultation rooms will also undergo extensive refurbishment.

The new state-of-the-art operating theatre will be equipped to perform a range of enhanced medical and surgical procedures including orthopaedic surgery, endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures. The theatre will be fitted with laminar flow ventilation, which will help in enhancing infection prevention.

In order not to disrupt the healthcare service during the upgrade period, the hospital has opted for a modular building solution. A major chunk of the work will be carried out off site and then delivered to the hospital for assembly. The remaining work, which includes an extension and renovation of the patient reception facilities, pharmacy and consulting suites, will be carried out onsite with minimal disruption. The project is scheduled for June 2011 completion.
